Why Pasture Raised?
As Farmers & Consumers, We Have A Responsibility…
The Industry:
With over 8 billion chickens being raised and processed for meat each year, chicken is America’s favorite meat. Unfortunately, the way that chicken is conventionally raised is not healthy for the earth, the chickens, or our bodies. Industry raised chickens are grown in confinement and extremely packed living quarters. They don’t see the sun and don’t have enough space to even stretch their wings. Unsanitary living conditions breed disease which requires the chickens to be medicated in order to get them to survive until the day they are butchered. Mass slaughterhouse practices are stressful for the birds and require the meat to be dunked in bleach in order for it to be sanitary and sellable. These practices not only affect the quality of life for the birds, but they also affect the nutritional content of the chicken that is consumed by you.
Our Farm:
Our family believes that chicken should be raised different and that all starts with pasture. Our chickens are raised on pasture and moved each day to a fresh plot of grass. This is the most sanitary condition to raise a chicken. Sunshine, fresh air, and movement naturally keep our flock free from disease without the need for medication. Our chickens are free to run around and do what chickens do best: scratch the earth, chase bugs, and spread their manure around. Not only is this great for the chickens but it is great for our earth. Chicken manure is packed with the nutrients that our soil needs. Letting the chickens gently disturb the soil with their scratching and then leaving that plot behind with a layer of chicken poop gives back to our earth in the most sustainable and natural way possible. All of these practices produce the highest quality meat available. Packed with more nutrients than conventionally raised chicken, it is chicken you can feel good about eating.
